Vision of Civil Defence

    The objective of civil defence is to minimize loss of life and property in case of crisis in the country, maintain the morale of the affected people during search and rescue operations and continue economic production. The objective of civil defence is to "protect citizens by citizens". Under this objective, women and men willing to cooperate in the national task are given civil defence training and are nominated as civil defence volunteers under the Civil Defence Act 1968 by the Civil Defence Controller (District Collector). Civil defence focuses on the following measures-

        1. Protecting citizens and infrastructure from emergencies and disasters.

        2. Enhancing preparedness and response capabilities.

        3. Promoting resilience and security awareness in the community.

        4. Collaborating with stakeholders to reduce risks and impacts.

Role

    The aim of civil defence is to save lives, minimize loss of property, maintain continuity of production and keep the morale of the people high. In war and emergency, the civil defence organization has a vital role to play in protecting the hinterland, supporting the armed forces, organizing the citizens and assisting the local administration. In the last few years, the concept of civil defence has moved beyond managing damage caused by conventional weapons to include threat perceptions against nuclear weapons, biological and chemical warfare and natural and man-made disasters. Keeping in view the present requirements, more and more volunteers are being trained in all the districts of the state.
